Description
Waterfall Art A Natural Wonder of the World. Natures Beauty in the Umpqua National Forest. The most widely recognized waterfalls in the state. The columnar basalt waterfall, which forms when a river or stream plunges over the cliff face of a rock formation known as columnar basalt. This geologic feature forms when lava cools rapidly and contracts, fracturing into geometric shapes. The basalt columns look as if they were carved by hand, though they develop naturally. Natures beauty sails 120 feet down its gracefully notched curtain of columnar basalt in two tiers, the taller of which is 80 feet high. Natures beauty is truly inspirational and spectacular.
